Sometimes coming up with a task for Kindergarten is the hardest part!
Story Based Problems
These low floor high ceiling 1st-grade tasks involve a story so students can connect to the task!
Number Patterns and Missing Numbers to 100
In this task, your students will be working with patterns in the 100 chart by figuring out the missing numbers the 100 Chart Thief stole! This task has 4 different versions with different patterns in the 100 chart. You can try one out for free here!
Partitioning Circles and Rectangles Between 2 and 4 Sharers
Pizza, anyone? In this fun activity, your students will help the Dough-licious Pizzeria complete their orders. The recording sheets look like order slips with pictures of circular or rectangular pizzas. For each order, students figure out how to split the circle or rectangle so it can be shared equally between two or four people. They'll get to practice fractions, naming the pieces, and sharing—all in one tasty task!
Nonstandard Measuring Task
The Cube Queen and Popsicle Stick King are renovating a room in their castle. The Queen thinks everything should be measured with cubes, and the King with popsicle sticks. Over two sessions your students will measure a variety of classroom objects. As a reflection, your students will consider their experience measuring and decide when it would be best to measure with a smaller or larger object.
Data and Graphing Task
In this task data and graphing task, a group of students visits the Laugh-A-Lot Carnival! They vote on the games, rides, and snacks they'd like to try at the carnival. Your students tally all the votes, organize the data into a bar graph, and then answer questions about the data
Task and Challenge Based Problems
These tasks are more simple in their set-up since there is no big back story, but your students will love them just as much!
Skip Counting by 5 Task
In this skip counting by five task your students will get several images of dice all showing 5, and without counting by ones, they will have to figure out how many pips are in the image.Â
Composing Shapes Task
This task is a composing shapes challenge! There are four shape challenges such as creating a boat, rockets, and more with pattern blocks! The thin-slicing is a new shape challenge for your students to complete. They can choose to do one challenge or try them all!
You can get the full First Grade Task Bundle with these tasks and more for every math strand here!
